RWDSU ENDORSES SHOMARI FIGURES FOR CONGRESS IN AL-2

(BIRMINGHAM, AL) - Today, President Stuart Appelbaum of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) and Randy Hadley, President of the Mid-South Council of the RWDSU announced the union’s endorsement of Shomari Figures in the Congressional race in Alabama District 2. The RWDSU’s 10,000+ members across Alabama will begin their work in support of Figures’ campaign by phone banking, canvassing and spreading the word among fellow members who work in poultry processing, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, nursing and other industries in the state.

“Shomari Figures is the right candidate to fight for those living in Alabama’s newly-drawn 2nd Congressional District. His upbringing in a family of civil rights activists and his appreciation of the Civil Rights Movement’s history in Alabama means he’ll be a strong fighter for the rights of residents of the 2nd Congressional district. He knows what’s at stake. He’s a strong supporter of the issues important to workers; from strengthening the Affordable Care Act, to protecting the rights of all Americans to vote, to building out healthcare networks in rural areas, and fighting for paid parental leave he’s ready to fight for what our members need. Alabama needs more candidates like Shomari, who are proudly pro-union in the south where that’s not so easy, who will fight to protect workers’ rights to organize, and who will work to raise wages, create jobs, and build an inclusive economy that helps lift up all workers in Alabama. Shomari, you have our support and our members at RWDSU are ready to get to work on your campaign,” said Randy Hadley, President of the Mid-South Council of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).
