STATEMENT FROM RWDSU PRESIDENT APPELBAUM ON MAYOR-ELECT RANDALL WOODFIN

Today, President Stuart Appelbaum of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) highlighted the work of members in the Birmingham Mayoral race in support of Randall Woodfin, who won his hard-fought campaign against an eight-year incumbent last night. RWDSU members look forward to working with him on legislation that will give workers a voice in Birmingham for the first time in years.

“Randall Woodfin’s win tonight in Birmingham sends a clear message that voters want a progressive voice in the Mayor’s Office that will fight for working people,” said Stuart Appelbaum, President of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). “Many of our 10,000 members across Alabama worked tirelessly to get out the vote for Randall, going door-to-door, making phone calls, and talking with union voters at worksites. We are proud of how effective we were in sending voters the message that a vote for Randall is a vote for workers’ voices in Birmingham. As Mayor, we know he will work closely with our members to ensure that laws that impact working Birmingham are written with working Birmingham.”
