RWDSU ENDORSES MARK LEVINE FOR NYC COMPTROLLER
(NEW YORK, NY) – Today, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) announced the union’s endorsement of Mark Levine in his bid for New York City Comptroller. The RWDSU’s members who live and work across New York City will begin their work in support of Levine’s campaign spreading the word among fellow members who work in grocery and non-food retail, department stores, pharmaceutical and recreational cannabis, food service, building maintenance, at area airports, in warehousing and distribution and other industries in the city.
Stuart Appelbaum, President of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) issued the following statement on the union’s endorsement:
“Mark Levine has shown that he is a true fighter for working people here in New York from his time as a City Councilmember and through his work as a Borough President. He has stood with our union time and time again, most recently on our contract fights at REI, with GrowNYC and Barnes & Noble. Even assisting us on our historic statewide bill, the Retail Worker Safety Act, which passed in record time last year and will go a long way to protecting retail workers with critical panic buttons and safety trainings.
“At a time when our city needs every cent put to work in the right way, we need a leader in the Comptroller’s office reviewing every contract thoroughly. Mark has pledged to fight for all New Yorkers, including low wage workers in this new office. He has also pledged to fight for responsible development, workers rights, immigrant rights and for fair contracts. We know Mark Levine has always put New York’s working people first and he will continue to do that as Comptroller, which is why we are proud to endorse him today.”
“I am proud and honored to receive the endorsement of RWDSU as we fight together to make New York City a better place for working families. RWDSU workers are the people who help make our city hum and are a backbone of New York’s workforce and economy. When RWDSU workers are succeeding, New Yorkers are succeeding. Additionally, it was RWDSU workers that kept New York City fed at their own personal risk when COVID was at its worst. These workers risked their lives and for that we are forever grateful. New York needs leaders worthy of RWDSU workers, which is why I will fight for a more affordable city with more housing, better schools, lower cost of living and a strong economy for everyone,” said Mark Levine, New York City Comptroller Candidate.
